SCHOOL STAYS

Over the past decade we have welcomed many 16 to 17-year old students who have come to Rhyl to attend one academic year (10 months) in the lower 6th form of a British State school.

Either they live in the Lingualink family or they live in another British family and are regarded as ‘sons’ and ‘daughters’ for the year and they attend the normal terms of a British school. They have to choose 4 subjects to study at ‘A’ or ‘A/S’ level just as any other British 6th-former does.

The British School year begins in September and ends in the middle of July of the next year. A student can either come for a whole academic year or else for one or two 12-14 week academic terms.

They make friends with their British co-students and become members of the school community for those 10 months. They often return to their home countries speaking English fluently and even understanding the regional dialect of this area.

The School Stay programme has proven to be a popular option for students from abroad who have wanted to take a year out in order to improve their English before going on to take further academic studies in their own country. Academic pursuits are interspersed with recreational activities (see picture).

GUARDIANSHIP SERVICES

Guardianship services are also offered to local private schools which have foreign language students resident in their schools and need a family to go to at school half term holidays.
