Lingualink - About us

Our business grew out of our home and over the past 17 years we have welcomed hundreds of language students from all over the world to Rhyl and to our centre. John is the director and he studied Modern Languages at Cambridge University. To enter Cambridge University he had to learn the basics of Russian in 6 weeks so he knows what is involved in learning a language.

Personal History of the Founders - John and Pauline met in India in 1969. They were involved in helping Indian charities and also in training Indian young people. Thereafter for 11 years in the 1970’s they lived in Vienna where their three children were all born. In Vienna they helped establish publishing houses in Eastern European languages. In 1980 they returned to Rhyl, which is Pauline’s birthplace, and in 1986 they founded an English Language school that trained young men and women, many of whom were going into international work overseas. These students came principally from Germany, Switzerland, Korea and Brazil.

We have been in the business of language tuition for over 40 years.

Our teaching staff (see team celebration above) is experienced in language teaching and have the usual TEFL language qualifications or experience. Most have had to learn a foreign language and so understand the problems encountered by foreign language learners. Sometimes we have teachers-in-training working with us too.

Apart from our own centre, we can accommodate students in neighbouring guest-houses which are family-run. Their are guest houses that are run by local families and the food on offer is very good. In Rhyl and surroundings there are many good and reasonably-priced eating houses and traditional country pubs.
