Winter News 2009

Greetings to all of you receiving this who came to our summer camps this past year.  We were so glad to receive you all.

We had a great summer with students attending from the usual places such as Germany, France, Spain, Japan, Czech Republic, Poland. Switzerland and Sweden.  We had a lot of fun and visited all the favourite locations in Snowdonia and North Wales.

We enjoyed having Darek Kowalewski, Sarah Bamber, Angela Worsley, Hilary Lee and Huw Davies work with us.  After several years absence, we welcomed the return of Henry Foley who, though he supports Manchester United, was nevertheless welcome!  They helped us so much in teaching and in running the activities.  Jacek and Agnieszka Pawelski, grandma  and family have taken over Darek's place as house managers of Pittsburgh.  Just 100 meters form a sandy beach, Pittsburgh remains the accommodation which is most favoured by the students.

We had over 10 groups of French and Czech school-groups, numbering roughly 50 per group, visiting us for mini-stays over the March to May period.  We also welcomed 20 students from countries as far apart as Japan, Korea, Venezuela, Chile, Mexico and Hong Kong staying in Rhyl and the area and attending various high schools for one academic year.

We have revised our prices and we hope that the new prices will attract many of you to come back and also encourage new friends to join us.

Fun all year!

Fun all year round Wow, this year just flew by!

It was wonderful and full of activities: Laserquest in Chester, orienteering in Beddgelert, games and fun on the beach in Rhyl, walks to beautiful places like Aber Falls, runs around Lake Brenig, a super Talent Night, a banquet evening, fun English lessons, and lots of tears when it came to saying good-bye.  We had a blast and we miss you very much. Hope to see you all next summer!

Our director turns 64! - Still beautiful!

Unbelievable, and yet true: John Hymus turned 64 recently and the mystery of his beauty is still not solved.

He keeps going around singing "Why am I so beautiful?...". If anyone has any ideas make sure you let us know! The person with the most original idea wins a Welsh flag. (We're serious - email us)

Summer Camps in full blast!

Summer Camps have started and Rhyl has become really busy. We have kids from Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Spain, and Vietnam staying here. And, of course, we have lots of intense studying, adventurous outings, exciting activities and plenty of fun going on.

Neighbours - everybody needs good neighbours

A 12-year-old language student (male) was looking out of his upstairs bedroom window with binoculars at the seagulls. A neighbour who was exercising in her pyjamas in her room on an exercise bike thought he was peering at her! Oh dear!

Here's some jokes for ya'

We've been running these courses for nearly 20 years now and when you get children coming and then their children and then their children's children, we realise we're getting old!   Jokes like these have begun to appeal to us but we're all still young in heart and/or young in age:

Just before the funeral services, the undertaker came up to the very elderly widow and asked,

'How old was your husband?' '98,' she replied. 'Two years older than me'

'So you're 96,' the undertaker commented.

She responded, 'Hardly worth going home, is it?

Reporters interviewing a 104-year-old woman:

'And what do you think is the best thing about being 104?' the reporter asked.  She simply replied, 'No peer pressure.'

The nice thing about being senile is you can hide your own Easter eggs.

I'm sure getting old!

I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees, fought prostate cancer and diabetes   I'm half blind, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine,  take 40 different medications that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts.   Have bouts with dementia ..   Have poor circulation;  hardly feel my hands and feet anymore.  Can't remember if I'm 85 or 92.  Have lost all my friends. But, thank God,

I still have my driving licence.

I feel like my body has got totally out of shape,  so I got my doctor's permission to join a fitness club and start exercising.  I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But,  by the time I got my leotards on,  the class was over.

My memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Also, my memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Know how to prevent sagging?   Just eat till the wrinkles fill out.

It's scary when you start making the same noises as your coffee maker.

These days about half the stuff in my shopping cart says: For fast relief

The Senility Prayer

Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference.

Did you know...

...that bilingual people are less likely to suffer from mental deterioration and Alzheimer's disease in old age? A survey carried out by York University in Toronto has found that being fluent in multiple languages improves performance among all age groups, but the difference is significantly greater at an older age.

So carry on learning those languages!
